Services Travertine

Travertine is a natural stone that's been used in outdoor spaces for centuries — and it's one of the most popular materials in Phoenix for good reason. It stays cooler underfoot than concrete, handles Arizona heat well, and adds a high-end look that's hard to replicate with manufactured products.

How travertine installation works: Travertine is set on a prepared concrete or compacted base depending on the application. Tiles are cut to fit, mortar-set, and grouted with a fill compatible with natural stone. Proper sealing is critical outdoors — it protects against staining, moisture absorption, and the daily UV exposure Phoenix delivers year-round.

Citiscapes installs travertine tile for pool decks, patios, walkways, and outdoor living areas throughout Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, and greater Phoenix. We source quality travertine in a range of finishes — brushed, tumbled, and honed — and help clients select the right profile for their space and use.

One of travertine's biggest advantages in Arizona is surface temperature. In direct sun, it stays noticeably cooler than concrete or dark-colored pavers — which makes it an especially smart choice around pools and any area where people walk barefoot. It's also non-slip when properly finished, which matters for wet environments.

Travertine is a natural material, so no two tiles are identical. That variation is part of the appeal — and part of why the planning and layout process matters. We work through that before installation begins so the finished product is exactly what you had in mind.

Proper installation is what separates travertine that looks great in five years from travertine that cracks, stains, or shifts. We prep the base correctly, use the right setting material, and seal every project before we leave the site.

Our backyard was nothing but dirt, weeds, and dog crap for years. I was so embarrassed by it. In fact, I tried to avoid going outside so I wouldn't have to look at it. I really wanted a Gazebo and a small shed, but we needed to get concrete slabs first. So I got some quotes for extending the patio and add room for a shed, and to put in a large 12x12 slab for my Gazebo. I was hesitant to reach out to Citiscapes because the job was so small and I was afraid they would be out of my price range. But their reviews were all great, which made me feel more comfortable about going with them over a smaller company. Joey totally understood my vision. He never made me feel like the job was "too small" and I was actually quite surprised that his quote was in line with what I had budgeted. He even priced out things that I wanted to get done in the future. I was so impressed with their work and Joey's professionalism, I reached out to them again for "phase 2" which involved more concrete, installing irrigation, outdoor tile, and a retaining wall for my plants. Again, it was right on budget! I now have the backyard of my dreams and plan to use Citiscapes again when we are ready to do the front yard. You can see the before and after photos below.
